Officially Ours

Today was the day that Kassidy became ours officially. We went to a government office today where we had to do an interview and pay the rest of our adoption fees. The orphanage director and nanny who was in charge of overseeing Kassidy's foster care were there. We got as a pic of them with us as you can see, which I think is cool for the future to look back on. Even though she did not stay in the orphanage, the orphanage staff would check on her regularly at the foster parent's home. Today the nanny came over to hold Kassidy and she cried and reached back for daddy. The nanny was very shocked but said that it was good since she had attached to him so well. It kind of made me feel a little bit better knowing that she would not even go to the nanny who looked like what she was used to and who she had seen probably on several other occasions. But I'm sure all with time everything will fall into place. In the second half of the day, Nikki went to Walmart with part of the group since the tour guide was prodded by so many of us that it was imperative that we go to Walmart. hehe After lunch, Kassidy was so tired that we did not think it would be a good idea for us to have her go so Nikki just went and got some needed items and some not so needed items in addition (but oh well...what is walmart for)? I have to say that it was an experience in shopping in a Walmart in China even more so than the US Walmarts. :) In Guangzhou, the first place we stayed for three nights and the last place we will stay for 5 or 6 more nights, the people are much more familiar with American people as everyone who adopts through China has to go to stay in that area for at least a week to do paperwork before going home. Here in Wuhan, everyone points at us Americans with their Chinese children. We actually have a tag to wear that explains that we are in China to adopt a baby and that we will take good care of her and that we are staying in a local hotel. This is supposed to be for inquiring minds which there are many. We have only encountered one unhappy person and that was in the official building we went to this morning to finalize the adoption. When we were standing on the first floor there was a woman walking down the steps. She noticed us, stopped dead in her tracks and stood looking at us with a very mean look. One of the fathers waved and said hello and she just continued with the dirty look. But other than that, everyone has been very nice. When I got back from Walmart, Billy had just woke Kassidy up. She had slept for 3-4 hours straight so when we will go to sleep tonight I am not sure. She just got a diaper change and belly filled so hopefully that will do the trick because daddy and mommy have had it. Tomorrow is a day that we have an optional tour of a museum about the Hubei province where we are staying and the province that Kassidy is from. Part of the adoption families are going and part are staying and resting at the room for the day. I figure since everyone except me stayed home for the Walmart trip then maybe we can spend the first half of the day taking the tour of the museum. After the museum, hopefully we can spend the second half of the day just resting and playing. There is a nice park beside our hotel but it is so hot outside it makes it very tiring to be out for very long. I will end this as Billy is putting Kassidy in he crib because she is rubbing her eyes so maybe it will be a good night of sleep afterall. I am certainly hoping so. Last night she slept from 9:30 PM to 5:30 AM which is great. We will see how long this schedule will last. Will try to post more tomorrow.
